about

When the Apollo mission to the moon launched in 1969, Black people had been rioting over inequality, inspiring Gil Scot Heron's song "Whitey On The Moon". When Elon Musk's company, SpaceX, launched its first mission with humans on board in 2020, Black Lives Matter protesters were rioting in the streets. It was history repeating itself. The world is now facing the rise of fascism, the threat of nuclear war and a looming climate catastrophe. The so-called Dark Ages followed the collapse of the Roman Empire. There's a good chance that society will again go "backwards" and the chance to reach Mars will disappear. Responding to someone on Twitter after SpaceX's first launch with humans, Musk said: "What matters is how long civilization is capable of making the jump to Mars. This could be a very short period of time measured in decades. It took 4.5 billion years to get to this point & civilization isn’t looking super stable."

lyrics

We're trying to make the jump
We're trying to make the leap
We're trying to get there
But it's not looking super stable

We're trying to make the jump
We're trying to make the leap
We're trying to get there
But it's not looking super stable

We're trying to make the jump
We're trying to make the leap
We're trying to get there
But it's not looking super stable

We're trying to make the jump
We're trying to make the leap
We're trying to get there
But it's not looking super stable

We're trying to make the jump
We're trying to make the leap
We're trying to get to Mars
But it's not looking super stable

We're trying to make the jump
We're trying to make the leap
We're trying to get there
But it's not looking super stable
